Laughter Yoga

Ho! Ho! Ha! Ha! Ha!  …….Welcome to Laughter Yoga – the FUN new exercise system sweeping the WORLD!!

Laughter Yoga is a unique exercise routine which combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing. Did you know anyone can laugh without relying on humour, jokes or comedy.

Laughter is initially stimulated as a physical exercise while maintaining eye contact with others in the group promoting childlike playfulness. In most cases and within a short period of time, usually 2 – 6 minutes, this leads to real and contagious laughter. Science has proved that the body cannot differentiate between simulated and real laughter. Laughter Yoga is the only technique that allows adults to achieve sustained hearty laughter without involving cognitive thought. It bypasses the intellectual systems that normally act as a brake on natural laughter.

Each session starts with gentle warm-up exercises which include stretching, chanting (Ho Ho Ha Ha Ha), clapping and body movement. These help break down inhibitions and develop feelings of childlike playfulness.  Using your breath to stimulate your diaphragm you combine deep breathing with clapping, chanting and a series of playful exercises. These exercises when combined with the strong social dynamics of group behaviour, lead to prolonged and hearty unconditional laughter.  Angie also teaches within her session a series of tongue positions combined the differtent expressions of laughter (eg. Ho, Ha, Her, Hu, Hoo) that work on certain physiological systems in your body. The session finishes with a ‘laughter meditation’. This is a session of unstructured laughter whereby participants sit or lie down and allow natural laughter to flow from within us like a fountain. This is a powerful experience that often leads to healthy emotional catharsis and also a feeling of release and joyfulness that can last for days. This can be followed by guided relaxation and finished with a total cheer of gratitude for the experience you have encountered.

Angie is your fully qualified and trained ‘Laughter Yoga Instructor’ and she will guide you through this fun and energetic process.  We suggest you wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement. Either bare feet or comfortable flat shoes are recommended depending on the floor. The time frame for each session is usually between 30 – 45 minutes.
